Central Nordic Combined Athlete Competes in 2024 Youth Olympics
Anders Giese from Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove, IL will compete for the USA in Nordic Combined events at the 2024 Youth Olympic Games being held in South Korea.
Central Division's Anders Giese competed on Team USA for the 2024 Youth Olympic Games in Nordic Combined in Gangwon, Korea. He was 28th in the men's individual event and helped the US secure 9th place in the team event.
Nordic Combined combines the results from a ski jumping competition and a cross country ski race. Training for these two disciplines takes an incredible amount of time and dedication. The Youth Olympic Games are held every four years for athletes age 15-17. For most athletes this is a once in a lifetime experience. Others may just miss the chance to compete altogether because they are not of the qualified age at the time the games are held.
We are extremely proud of Anders for all his accomplishments. He has competed very well within the United States and earned the Central Divisions Best Nordic Combined Male Athlete last year. There's no question he is a talented athlete with a bright future.

2024-25 Season Schedule Announced
Central Division has tentatively approved their schedule for the upcoming 2024-25 season at their April 13 Panel Meeting. The season will officially begin in May 2024 and go through March of 2025.
The first official Central event will be a training camp hosted by the Blackhawk Ski Club in Madison, WI the weekend of May 18-19. Blackhawk will host skiers on their 30m, 15m and 5m hills. Those young athletes who want to get in a lot of jumps in one day will love the well constructed tow rope Blackhawk has for their summer season. Parents, this is a worth the travel time, even in May!
June is another great month for training camps as both Norge and Ishpeming ski clubs will hosts weekend camps. Ishpeming will host their camp on their 40m and smaller hills. Norge will have their 70m open for the older jumpers. Travel opportunities are available with a summer solstice camp in Alaska and a "grasshopper" camp (small hills) at the end of June in Lake Placid, NY.
July the summer competition season heats up with camps and competitions in Steamboat Springs, CO, Lake Placid, NY and Park City, UT. Those wanting to stay closer to home, Norge will host a competition weekend at the end of the month.
August includes camps in Lake Placid and Norge, while the month of September will see the Flying Eagles Ski Club in Eau Claire, WI hosting a camp and competition over the 14-15. This competition will be an alternate qualifier for Junior Nationals in both jumping and nordic combined. Those skiers hoping to make the team will want to put this one on their To Do Lists—especially since last winter the lack of snow made these alternate qualifiers extremely important.
October will bring competitions at Norge (another alternate Junior National Qualifier for jumping and nordic combined) and The Flaming Leaves/US Nationals in Lake Placid. The Blackhawk Ski Club will host their annual Halloween Bash training camp and the Snowflake Ski Club in Westby, WI will hopefully host their first summer training camp on their new plastic landing hills.
After a much needed break in November, and with the cooperation of the weather, we will start our typical whirlwind of competitions during our winter season with a chance to travel to Steamboat Springs, CO for their Winter Start camp and competitions. Here is Central our first club tournaments will be a Junior National Qualifier on the Itasca Ski Club's 70m and the nordic combined race the next day at Cloquet. Cloquet's tournament will be on all their hills. It's a great way to take advantage of time off from school at the end of December!
Check the calendar on our events page for specific dates and times for all camps and competitions. In fact, check it often because when you are dependent on the weather, nothing is ever set in stone.
